Estonian Arboricultural Society’s voluntary working day, spring 2023

On April 2, the Estonian Arboricultural Society held another voluntary working day. On this occasion, maintenance work was done in the Luua Arboretum. Like all living organisms, trees age and park stands mature and become more dense and overgrown. Storms have also left their mark on the arboretum. That is why almost 30 Estonian arborists got involved in the maintenance work.

In Luua, preparations were made carefully for working day: a thick layer of clean snow was “laid down” the day before, and in addition to soup, a sunny day was ordered for working day. Although these preparations would have made it possible to carry out a nice ski trip, the skilled and diligent arborists did a great job. Fallen trunks were bucked, crowns were pruned, in area called “Europe” a park was made out of paddy, and branches were burned in area called “Siberia”. The brush was also cut, and in addition, the stump grinder worked under Einar’s hand from morning to night. In this way, stumps inside the grass do not prevent summer mowing. In addition to Luua, arborists have previously held voluntary working days in other places, but this time there was an opinion that holding those in Luua could become a tradition. The work continues, and Luua Forestry School is also the home of the Estonian Arborist Association. It is at this address that the organisation is registered.

Thanks to everyone who took part from Luua Forestry School and Estonian Arboricultural Society!
