The levels of the arborist profession in Estonia
When choosing an arborist, it is important to know what level of certification exam he/she has passed, i.e. what kind of work he/she is prepared for. A certified tree worker (arborist certification level 4) is a proffessional who can be trusted to carry out all tree care and removal work.
A higher level specialist is called TREE ASSESSOR (arborist certification level 5). He is a specialist with extensive experience who supervises the execution of tree maintenance works, including planting works, gives professional advice on organizing procurements and supervises tree maintenance and planting works and the implementation of tree protection measures on construction sites. He assesses the condition and value of woody plants and documents the assessment results, gives recommendations related to tree care and prepares expert assessments. In the past, those who acquired a similar profession were called master arborists.
The most common is ARBORIST (certification level 4). An arborist who has received this certification has demonstrated all the necessary knowledge and skills required to work as an arborist. He is a skilled worker who plants trees in densely populated areas and cares for them throughout their entire life cycle – independently makes decisions related to tree care work, based on the task or project, the biology of the tree and the professional ethics of the arborist

An arborist level 4 specialist can also acquire the sub-profession ARBORIST WORKING FROM A AIRLIFT (level 4).He is also certified with all the skills and knowledge necessary for an arborist, as described in the previous paragraph, but unlike the aforementioned arborist, they are not allowed to work with climbing ropes, but work at heights only from a airlift.
