Seminar: veteranization of the trees on woodmeadows.

On 26.02, a seminar on tree veteranization took place within the framework of the Estonian and Latvian woodmeadow restoration project PuisniiduLife or WoodMeadowLIFE. The day began in Penijõe, where specialists from the Estonian Environmental Board gave an overview of the project and Aino Mölder from Luua Forestry School spoke about the nature of veteranization and why and where it might be necessary. Then we went to a woodmeadow, where trees were veteranized using various techniques such as scrape marks, imitation of lightning strikes, creating nest cavities for different bird species, ringing, tear cutting and coronet cut. Veteranization of trees plays an important role in maintaining biodiversity in woodmeadows. We thank the specialists from the Estonian Environmental Board and lecturers for conducting a productive workshop.
